Research interests: Studies of isotope effects on chemical shifts in intramolecular hydrogen bonded compounds with low barriers to hydrogen transfer; NMR structural studies of proteins and biomolecules in general, structure-function relationships. NMR studies in environmental chemistry and biology. Studies of tautomerism. Friedel-Crafts acylations. Isolation, characterization and synthesis of new natural products. Compound classes of particular interest, proteins, Schiff bases, b-thioxoketones and b-diketones, ionic liquids.
