Markus Meuwly studied Physics at the University of Basel and completed his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry working with Prof. J. P. Maier. After postdocs with Prof. J. Hutson (Durham) and Prof. M. Karplus (Strasbourg and Harvard) as a Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Scholar, he started as a Förderprofessor at the University of Basel in 2002, where he is Full Professor of Physical and Computational Chemistry. His scientific interests range from accurate intermolecular interactions based on multipolar and kernel- and neural network-based representations to applications of quantitative molecular simulations for cold (interstellar) and hot (hypersonics) environments and the investigation of the reactive dynamics and spectroscopy in proteins and in the condensed phase. Several of the tools are available in the CHARMM molecular simulation program.
